MP Mbadi on Cabinet approval: Let’s give President Ruto his skunk
Suba South Mp John Mbadi now says National Assembly must reject the majority of President William Ruto’s Cabinet picks.
Speaking during the approval debate of cabinet nominees on Wednesday at parliament, Mbadi said all the 24 nominees were ‘deficient in all ways’.
“We have a choice to make either decision to reject over 60 percent of these names or give President Ruto his skunk. Let us not interfere with it. We give it to him,” Mbadi said.
“These are not people who can run the government.”
He added that only eight of the 24 picks pass to be in Cabinet while the rest are “incompetent, unqualified, have integrity issues and cannot deliver the country from where it is to the next level”.
According to the vetting report by Committee on Appointment, 23 nominees have been approved to the Cabinet except Tourism CS nominee Penninah Malonza.
The Committee said Malonza “did not demonstrate knowledge on topical, administrative and technical issues touching the Ministry of Tourism”.
“…Lacked the requisite abilities and professional experience to be approved for appointment to the position of cabinet secretary,” the report read.
Even so, the vetting report included a minority report recommending the rejection of Public Service CS nominee Aisha Jumwa and her Agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi.
MPs will vote on the approval report, which will be final, paving way to the swearing by end of the week.
