Kalonzo Musyoka calls for an audit of 2022 polls; says there must be electoral justice
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has described the 2027 succession politics as immature. He emphasized that the National Dialogue Committee is committed to addressing electoral justice in the country and resolving disputed issues from the 2022 election. Azimio-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga reaffirmed his position on the talks with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance but warned that Azimio would not tolerate any breaches of the agreement.
Raging political discussions regarding the succession plans in Luo Nyanza have brought into focus Raila Odinga’s political strategy for 2027. Comments made by Oburu Oginga on Raila’s succession have caused ripples in Odinga’s political domain. However, Kalonzo Musyoka believes that Raila still has a strong political following.
Kalonzo Musyoka stated, “The original Nyanza will stay in Azimio, and no one can change that. Some say that Baba [Raila] is retiring or that others are taking a certain position. Who doesn’t know the sacrifices my brother Raila has made for this country?”
Kalonzo stressed that discussing 2027 politics should only come after addressing the issues of 2022. He noted that the National Dialogue Committee, which is set to begin talks, will prioritize electoral justice, including the opening of the server.
Raila has called on the Kenya Kwanza Alliance to honor the talks and work together to find solutions to the issues raised by the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition. He warned that if they did not take the talks seriously, Azimio would withdraw from the discussions.
Raila Odinga said, “We have accepted the talks, which is why we have appointed Kalonzo to lead our team in the talks. We will give them a chance to speak well and find lasting solutions to these issues. But if they bring disruptions, are you ready?”
Kalonzo Musyoka added, “Raila has told me that when we attend, we should keep our eyes open. If they don’t mean business, we have no time to waste in this country.”
With President William Ruto solidifying his position in his party UDA to make inroads into the grassroots, seen as a strategy for the 2027 race, Odinga emphasized that Ruto should empower devolved units to promote development, rather than just consolidating his support base.
Raila Odinga stated, “We have said to bring money from the top to the bottom so that the devolved government can work for the residents of Kisii. Matters of building houses are the responsibility of the county. Give Simba [Governor Kisii] money for healthcare, industrial parks, and markets too.”
Governor Kisii, Simba Arati, warned, “And Honorable William Ruto, we will fight you Mundu Khumundu until 2027, and if you play this game, it will end badly.”
The National Dialogue Committee is set to officially commence talks on Monday, focusing on the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, boundary delimitation, and an audit of the 2022 General Election, among other issues. The National Dialogue process is expected to provide direction following a standoff between the government and the opposition.
