Lee Kinyanjui cries foul on IEBC final tallies in Nakuru

Incumbent Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui has cried foul over results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for Nakuru county.

Speaking to the media, Kinyanjui accused IEBC of tampering with the results citing inconsistencies in voting patterns.

“We have seen an unnatural pattern of how people voted. We have cases where you have voting centres with three or four streams and the three streams, each vote exactly the same number. So 90, 90 90…150, 150,150. And given that some of these places were divided alphabetically, it is not possible that the exact same number of people would have agreed and distributed themselves equally into the different streams, he said calling for further scrutiny.”

In addition to that, he said the presidential and county seat results did not add up as, according to him, some voters cast the ballot for some positions but not for others.

“There are people, mathematically, who went, voted for the president but never voted for anyone else. Others voted for president and governor and did vote not for the others. So the question would be; what happens to that voter after voting for the presidency? How do they disappear in the queue before voting for the other two or three?” he posed.

On the voter turnout, the governor claimed that the number of voters, reported after Tuesday 9 August, 2022, did not align with the numbers of voters after the official election results were announced.

“There is a general understanding and knowledge that the voter turnout was generally low. In fact, in many places, there was hardly any queue and by the close of the day, we were at around 50%, 55% on voter turnout. But as it was, finally when the results were tallied, it is coming to 68% so where did the other people come from?”

He also outlined voter bribery and violence as reasons for the low voter turnout. Kinyanjui further made claims of system manipulation way before the election.

“We see Nakuru as one of those areas that were targeted by a very deliberate, well-orchestrated international electoral fraud that did not just start at the voting; it was something that was well-thought. There were young people here who came way before the election with laptops and other gadgets that had access to the system and the question is; how can IEBC, charged with the responsibility of ensuring the integrity of an election, allow all of this to happen?”

Kinyanjui did state that consultations with their legal and technical teams were underway and would decided on the way forward.

“Wanjiku votes and our responsibility is only to count what she has voted; we have no business manipulating what she has voted and I think this will be an area of concern in the coming days… The integrity of the process cannot be guaranteed and therefore the outcomes likewise do not reflect what Wanjiku did and this vote manipulation is a very serious challenge to our voting process and I think, also a serious threat to our National security. If you allow these kinds of fraudsters into the nation then we don’t know where we are going next,” he concluded.
