Nepal probes mid-air near collision between two planes
Nepal has suspended three air traffic controllers and launched an investigation after two passenger planes nearly collided mid-air last week, officials said Sunday.
The incident occurred on Friday when an Air India airliner and a Nepal Airlines plane were waiting to land at Kathmandu’s busy international airport.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has formed a committee to look into the incident, spokesperson Jagannath Niroula told AFP.
He said the Air India plane, which was on hold at an altitude of 19,000 feet (5,800 metres) due to high traffic at Kathmandu airport, suddenly descended and narrowly missed colliding with the Nepal Airlines aircraft flying at an altitude of 15,000 feet.
“We have formed a committee to investigate this incident which has raised our concern over the safety risk,” Niroula said.
“Three air traffic controllers who were on duty at that time have been removed from the active control position until further notice,” he said.
Mystery killing of a minor in Eldoret
The family of the slain 12-year-old boy whose body was found dumped in the Chepkoilel area in Uasin Gishu County four days after he went missing from home is crying for justice.
This, as the main suspect in his murder Eric Kiptoo succumbed this morning while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
But police say the case will proceed despite the death of the main suspect.
Marsabit flooding displaces hundreds
More than 800 families in Walda, Marsabit county, have been left homeless after a flash flood swept away their homes. In parts of Northern Kenya, roads and bridges have been washed away, paralyzing transport in the region. Hellen Aura with the latest on floods in different parts of the country.
Learning in Walda primary school was interrupted following flash floods in the area. The school has now been closed indefinitely with parents rushing to rescue their children from the impending danger.
IG in process of aquiring court orders for exumation of Jeff Mwathi’s body
The Inspector General of police Japheth Koome says his office is in the process of acquiring a court order allowing them to exhume the body of the late Jeff Mwathi.
This, is in order for fresh investigations to be carried out over Mwathi’s death. Mwathi passed away on the 22nd of February in what was claimed to be a suicide by police officers and those Mwathi was with at the time.
However it took efforts from his family to challenge the circumstances around Mwathi’s death.
