Ruto snubbed President Suluhu after mediation talks invite: Raila
Azimio La Umoja One Coalition leader Raila Odinga has alleged that Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu came into the country two weeks ago to mediate over the bi-partisan talks with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Speaking during a press conference held by International media bodies on the crisis of the country, on Tuesday, July,25, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader said President Samia Suluhu was left hanging for the two days she was in the country, and no mediation of the bi-partisan talks took place.
“Samia Suliuhu came here two weeks ago at the invitation of President Ruto to mediate, but she was kept waiting not from our side, we were available, but the other side was not available. She spent two nights here and it was all in vain. Other people have tried but he’s the one who’s resisting. I am ready to sit with other people to discuss these issues,” Odinga stated during the interview with the International Press Association of East Africa.
The Azimio leader also claimed that there have been more people who have tried to mediate the talks, but President William Ruto has refused.
“I have said I am ready to sit with the people and discuss these issues. Ruto is actually pretending, and he is living in the delusion that we don’t have a crisis,” he said.
In a firm declaration, Raila emphasized that resolving the crisis in Kenya demands patriotism. This is the first time Raila has addressed the public since the Wednesday, July 12 antigovernment protests.
On Wednesday, July 19, President Ruto expressed his willingness to engage in talks with the opposition on matters affecting Kenyans as long as they did not involve a handshake conversation.
“To engage us in talks (through Parliamentary leadership) on the issue they raised, but they chose to use demonstrations. They should use constitutional and legal avenues to address their grievances, if any,” President Ruto said while commissioning the Kamugu project in Kericho.
During last week’s protests a video a video of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu made rounds on social media where she was heard saying that the current state of protests in Kenya was creating a lucrative business environment for its neighbours.
